Teletherapy

At BCGC, we take mental health counseling very seriously. It is a priority of ours to make sure that people in our community have access to quality, professional and caring support no matter what. This value is one of the most important factors in our commitment to the very special work that we do with our clients.

We continuously strive to breakdown that barriers that prevent people from getting the support and help they need. To achieve this BCGC offers complimentary consultations so that you may see if we are a good match for your therapeutic needs before making an investment in your mental health. We also offer reduced fees for our services to alleviate the financial concerns that some people may experience when thinking about starting mental health counseling.

For the first time we are introducing TELETHERAPY to our "toolbox" of services. Teletherapy eliminates mobility as a barrier to therapy services. Teletherapy helps us with continuity of care through the COVID-19 pandemic but also will connect therapists with clients that are homebound and increases the availability of appointments without having to factor in travel time to and from our office.

So what is TELETHERAPY? Teletherapy, also known as telehealth or even e-therapy is an alternative option to traditional face to face mental health services like psychotherapy and counseling with the main difference being facilitated by telecommunications technology (e.g. internet, computers, phone or tablet).  Teletherapy allows licensed mental health professionals and their clients to log into a chosen secure, HIPPA compliant platform to conduct video or phone sessions.
What are the benefits of teletherapy?

1. Greater flexibility with scheduling appointments

2. Increase work/life balance

3. Offers a greater sense of safety for clients

4. Clients and therapists have access to each other even if they are not in their typical settings (business travel, vacations, etc.)

5. Convenience- no need to factor in travel time, access to bigger pool of prospective therapists as you do not need to be in driving distance to the office, homebound individuals or those without access to transportation can now receive services.

What are some disadvantages to theletherapy?

1. Challenging for therapists to respond to crisis situations

2. Teletherapy is not appropriate for those with serious psychiatric illnesses

3. There can be disruptions due to technology failures

Preparing for a teletherapy session:

At BCGC, clients can choose 30/45/60 minute sessions which are priced accordingly. You will fill out a signed consent form allowing for telehealth services. Logging into a secure WIFI creates a better opportunity for fewer technology based issues. Be sure to go into a private area (in your home/workplace etc.) and consider wearing headphones. Make yourself comfortable and be ready to connect!
